Where Is the Next Revival Happening?

ree

Many in the church today are asking this question: Where will the next revival break out? The people of God are hungry for revival. But as the old hymn says, we often only see the “mercy drops,” not the showers of blessing we read about from earlier days. Yes, there are flare-ups of revival here and there, like the Asbury Outpouring that took place February 8–24, 2023, at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky. Estimates say that tens of thousands of visitors, from over 200 academic institutions and multiple countries, traveled there to experience the movement of the Holy Spirit. This shows us how hungry people are for a fresh move of God. The wonderful news is that God is still moving, and this movement is not confined to a particular place or time. It is erupting all over the world.

Revival in the Digital Age

Yes, I am talking about the online spiritual awakening. We can see the movement of the Spirit in the fact that the YouVersion Bible App is about to reach one billion people. The BibleProject has over 620 million views across 200+ countries, reaching demographics that are often difficult to engage, such as young people between ages 18–34. There is a wave of people, of all ages, taking to social media to share their faith and invite others to turn to Christ for salvation. It is seen in churches streaming their services every Sunday and in Bible study groups, made up of people from many nations, gathering online to grow in grace together.

My Experience in This New Revival

I started an online ministry one month ago, a podcast actually, and I feel blessed and excited to be part of this new movement of God. I get to create a discipleship group with people from Africa, Asia, South and Central America, the Middle East, Europe and the United States, all coming together in this virtual space to study the Word, pray, and grow in faith and Christlikeness.

In the past, I often felt unsatisfied with my ministry because it was a “hit-and-run” model. I would travel, preach at revivals and conferences, pray with people, and then hand them over to their local church leaders for discipleship. Now, I get to be present every week, even if only virtually, to teach God’s Word, answer questions, provide resources, and pray for every person who might come across my podcast and find a safe space to grow in faith.

The Role of Technology and AI

The amazing development of artificial intelligence (AI), has created both excitement and anxiety as the church tries to discern how this will impact its global footprint. And although there are many ethical questions surrounding AI, I say: this is the new thing God is doing, let us perceive it and step into it. Through AI, a person like me, who knows very little about technology, can now record and edit videos that might bless a lonely person somewhere in the world with the good news of God’s love.

A Revival Open to Everyone

This is the great thing about this new revival: anyone can join in and share. In this virtual tent, all the gatekeepers become unnecessary, because now all who have been set free can help free others through the word of their testimony, in any language, with any accent.

This reminds me of Mary’s song of praise in Luke 1:46-56:

“My soul magnifies the Lord,

and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,

for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant.

Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed;

for the Mighty One has done great things for me,

and holy is his name.”

You are invited

God is stirring the waters in a big and powerful way. We must be ready to ride the wave and make ourselves available to anyone, anywhere in the world, who is praying for God to show up in their situation.

So, I leave you with this question: How will you jump in and be a part of this revival?
